Listen to us ROAR! Royals are Gold!! We earned Gold Status for the California PBIS Coalition in 2018!! We are looking forward to another exciting and successful school year! We will continue to implement our school-wide environmental change to help foster positive behaviors in our students. This is called PBIS, Positive Behavior Intervention and Support. Our goal with PBIS is to improve the school climate and maximize academic achievement.
At Katherine Edwards Middle School, our school-wide discipline plan is based on a Positive Behavior Interventions & Support (PBIS) framework. PBIS is a positive approach to student behavior, in which we teach expected behaviors for each specific setting. PBIS methods are research-based and have been proven to significantly reduce the occurrence of problem behaviors. Our goal is to increase student academic performance and safety, decrease problem behavior, and establish a positive school climate.
Our ROAR Expectations
O- On Time & On Task
A- Aim for Success
All students and staff will be Respectful, On Time & On Task, Aim for Success and be Responsible (ROAR)
At Edwards, we have adopted the Lion’s ROAR to outline the expectations that will support and create a positive and respectful learning environment. The Lion’s ROAR is all about respect, being on time and on task, aiming for success, and being responsible.
Students will receive a Lion Loot as a reward for showing ROAR. Our goal is to acknowledge students who are doing the right thing.
Examples of school-wide rewards are: raffles, Royal Bites (treats given out at lunch for 3-5 Lion Loot), lunch with the principal or staff, dances, assemblies, field trips, movie day, participation in iPad game day, and being let out to lunch five minutes early. We encourage you to review the Lion’s ROAR expectations with your child.
